Who knew Yonkers, NY had an Americana music scene? Well, if two house-rockin' Roots bands and a successful monthly music series make a scene, then it's true. Spuyten Duyvil and South County hale from Yonkers, New York's City Of Vision in which Urban H2O, an American Roots concert series, is entering it's fifth successful season. Urban H2O is curated by Spuyten Duyvil's Mark Miller and Beth Kaufman and has received steady sponsorship from the award-winning Captain Lawrence Brewing Company in Elmsford, NY since their first show in 2010.

The two bands first played together in 2012 when they shared the stage at Urban H2O's annual fundraiser for the Beczak Environmental Center. Since then, South County has been working hard here at home while Spuyten Duyvil has been busy touring the Northeast. When they re-connected at a regional booking conference, it was clear that they needed to find a way to get their growing audiences together. Captain Lawrence's tasting room, a vibrant focal point and gathering place for the local community, was the obvious choice.

"Captain Lawrence has been a generous and steadfast supporter of local music and community events here in the lower Hudson Valley including Urban H2O," Raved Mark Miller. "Their outstanding craft brews have paired perfectly with the music we've been presenting and we are thrilled to join our good friends, South County, in blowing the roof off of their tasting room next month."

With Spuyten Duyvil (pronounced "SPITE-en DIE-vil"), every performance is a barn-burning romp through the last 100 years of American Roots music. "They are the hottest new band in folk music ... and one of the best", says legendary WXPN Folk DJ, Gene Shay. The band's return to Westchester follows on the heels of a tour schedule including stops at The Philadelphia Folk Festival, Clearwater, The Falcon Ridge Folk Festival, Caramoor's American Roots Music Festival and 2013 CD release shows at NYC’s Rockwood Music Hall and the Ardmore Music Hall in Philadelphia.

Since it’s release to radio in September, Spuyten Duyvil's most current CD  “Temptation” has received airplay on over 100 stations in 5 countries rapidly reaching the #2 song and #7 album spots on the International Folk DJ Chart and a Top 20 position on the Roots Music Report's Folk Airplay Chart and a Top 30 position on The Roots 66 Airplay Chart. Spuyten Duyvil’s previous release, “New Amsterdam” (2011) received a “Top American Roots Album 2011” nomination from The Alternate Root TV and placement on a dozen radio DJ “Top Ten” lists.

Known for their blistering live shows, South County plays "genuine foot-stompin', thigh-slappin', whiskey-sippin' music" with "contagious energy".  Their unique brand of folkabilly evokes The Felice Brothers, The Band, Uncle Tupelo and Deer Tick.  In August 2012, South County was the featured artist for both WVUM's alt-country radio show "On The Trail" and The Barrelhouse Chronicles for their song, Elijah.  In the last three years, they've recorded two records and played numerous regional festivals including the Take Me To The River, Lower East Side, Beale Street on South Street and Sarah Lawrence College Music Festivals.

Westchester's own Captain Lawrence Brewing Company in Elmsford, NY has won prestigious awards from the Great American Beer Festival and TAP-NY for their craft-brewed beers. Their tasting room is open Wednesday – Friday 4pm-8pm, Saturday 12pm-6pm and Sunday 12pm-5pm. Tours are on Saturdays only every hour from 1pm-5pm.

In its fifth successful season, Urban H2O is a cultural beacon on the industrial waterfront of downtown Yonkers.  Presenting the best local and regional performers, Urban H2O's Winter/Spring 2014 season pushes the boundaries of the coffeehouse format with a mix of Bluegrass, Folk and Indie Pop. Urban H2O's welcome, intimate and affordable shows are typically held on the 3rd Saturday of each month at The Sarah Lawrence Center For The Urban River at Beczak and feature free craft beer from series sponsor, the award winning Captain Lawrence Brewing Company. Beczak is easily accessible by car (ample free parking) and steps from the Metro North / Amtrak in downtown Yonkers. For more information and a detailed schedule, please visit www.urbanh2o.org.
