If you haven't heard "The Social Music Hour Vol. 1", you can listen here or watch the band perform it live on YouTube

“These immensely talented, well-schooled musicians deserve to be heard far and wide – they restoreth thy soul.”  - Robert Myers - Elmore Magazine

Riding high on their International Folk Music Awards Album Of The Year nomination, 2016 was a year of great adventures for Spuyten Duyvil.  Their American Embassy backed tour of Israel featured two headlining sets at the Jacob's Ladder Festival on the Sea of Galilee.  US dates found the band playing intimate acoustic house concerts, rockin' electric sets on big festival stages and every kind of place in between. In addition to many return engagements (Philly Folk Fest, Caramoor's ARMF, New Bedford FF), they debuted in Florida headlining the South Florida Folk Festival, in Vermont at Roots On The River and shared the main stage of Long Island's Great South Bay Music Festival with Blues Traveler.
In showcasing the music of Mississippi John Hurt, Elizabeth Cotten, Woody Guthrie and Big Bill Broonzy here and abroad, the album's title has become a guiding philosophy. "Social Music" represents Spuyten Duyvil's commitment to sharing stages, engaging creatively with friends and strangers and taking tradition off the pedestal into the here and now. Reinventing traditional songs, they honor the folk process and transform the audience from listeners to participants and owners.

“Spuyten Duyvil are that rare breed of band that can cover songs written long before their grandparents were born, and reinterpret them so that an audience will swear on a stack of Rolling Stones that they are new. And in essence, isn’t that really what the folk music tradition has always been about?  - Don Dimuccio - Motifri.com

At November's North East Regional Folk Alliance Conference, the band puts it all into action hosting and performing in "The Backstage Sessions @ NERFA", a collaborative workshop format developed by the band at The Philadelphia Folk Festival and in a series of Parkinson's Disease Research Benefit shows featuring the music of Linda Ronstadt. The "Sessions" will feature 'new finds' on Saturday afternoon and more established artists on Saturday night/Sunday morning. Each artist involved will join the performers playing before and after their set in seamless, well crafted and sure-to-be magical collaborations.

On Friday night, the band will showcase more conventionally for The Philadelphia Folksong Society and others.

“This is as close to a musical "Come to Jesus" moment as you'll get outside the gospel roots of the deep south. Yonkers, NY based Spuyten Duyvil are the real deal when it comes to roots revivalist Americana music. Historians, outstanding songwriters, accomplished musicians and a musical family atmosphere converge to make some of the most outstanding music around today.”  - William Hurley - The Alternate Root TV

For 2017, the band is digging deeper into the Americana treasure chest developing a new collection of beautiful old tunes, freshly re-imagined and revamped "for today's discerning listener".
